Siemens Energy has received an order from the Netherlands for turnkey construction of a combined cycle power plant. Purchaser of the 435-megawatt (MW) plant Diemen 34 in the vicinity of Amsterdam is the Dutch utility Nuon, a subsidiary of Vattenfall A.B. Siemens will also handle plant maintenance. With an efficiency level as high as approximately 59 percent, maximized operating flexibility and low nitrogen oxide emissions the gas-fired plant will supply more than 750,000 Dutch households with ecofriendly power. The Diemen 34 power plant will also be capable of supplying as many as 25,000 households in the immediate vicinity with district heat by means of steam extraction. That is equivalent to a thermal capacity of approximately 260 MW.

After the power plant projects Sloe Centrale, and MaasStroom, Enecogen and Hemweg 9, this is the fifth order secured by Siemens in the Netherlands since 2007 for a turnkey combined cycle power plant.

In addition to turnkey construction Siemens will also supply the main components – an SCC5-4000F gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine, an SGen5-2000H generator, the entire electrical equipment and an SPPA-T3000 I&C system. Siemens will also be responsible for maintenance of the gas turbine, steam turbine and generator.
