MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently been called on to participate in the project, with the delivery of three 18V28/32S engines to the Egyptian Marketing Consultants Group.
The four-stroke diesel engines will power three electricity plants in Southern Egypt, near the town of Toshka, and are due for delivery in August, September and October 2010. Each gen-set will have an output of 23 MW.
The 18V28/32S engine is a turbocharged, single acting engIne with a trunk-piston configuration. It has a cylinder bore of 280 mm and a stroke of 320 mm with à crankshaft speed of 720/750 r/min.
V28/32S of MAN Diesel & Turbo is designed for reliability and ability to run on heavy fuel oil. The company reported extended intervals between overhauls with a lifetime of more than 20 years when properly maintained. More than 5000 of the engines are currently in service.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved one more milestone in the Middle-East region with the commissioning of yet another Gas Turbine Generating unit in Oman.

The 26 MW gas turbine generator was successfully put on stream at the Oman Refinery and Petrochemical plant in Muscat. Significantly, this is the second such unit to be commissioned by BHEL at the refinery. Another unit of similar rating was commissioned at the same project in May, 2010. The first of their kind in Oman, these units will provide captive power generation for the oil refinery.

The gas turbine generator units were engineered, manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Hyderabad Plant while the state-of-the-art control system has been supplied by the company’s Bangalore works.

Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract from Mississippi Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, to supply two SGT6-PAC 5000F gas turbine packages. These gas turbines will be installed in a coal-fired integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) power plant using Southern Company’s proprietary TRIG™ gasification technology. Approximately 65 percent of CO2 emissions from the 582-Megawatt (MWe) Kemper County power plant are expected to be captured – a reduction of three million tons of CO2 per annum. The plant is expected to go into operation in mid 2014.

The Kemper County project, located in Liberty, Mississippi, is one of a very important group of IGCC power projects currently under development or construction in the U.S., which are expected to demonstrate that IGCC is an environmentally compatible coal or petcoke-based power generation option in a carbon constrained world.

Siemens’ scope of supply comprises two gas turbine packages, each consisting of a model SGT6-5000F gas turbine with a rated capacity of 232 MW, an air-cooled generator and Siemens’ innovative SPPA-T3000 power plant control system.

Dresser Waukesha has added a fourth model to its 275GL Series of gas compression engines. The new 12-cylinder 12V275GL+, like its 16-cylinder counterpart, is a high-performance model with low NOx capability and class-leading power rating.

With its low NOx capability, the new 12V275GL+ meets the current 0.5 g/bhp-hr NOx requirement
for non-attainment areas. Like its 16-cylinder counterpart, the 12V275GL+ model is equipped
with a NOx sensor that directly measures NOx in the exhaust stream enabling real-time, closedloop
control of the air/fuel ratio to assure optimum performance.

The plus (“+”) symbol in the 12V275GL+ name refers to a series of competitive advantages that go
beyond low emissions and include 2% better fuel efficiency along with Waukesha’s well-known
fuel flexibility for maximum performance on a wide variety of fuel gas compositions and quality.

The 12V275GL+ is rated at 3625 bhp at 1000 rpm and delivers the most power in its class,
maximizing gas throughput and customer profits. In addition, the 12V275GL operates at full load
with no derate at higher altitudes than competitive models.

Cogeneration gas turbine power station was put into operation under the contract signed with Rosneft. Its total output is 200 MW. General contractor and designer o the project is Energokaskad JSC.
The first stage of the project includes four MS5001 gas turbine power plants and waste-heat boilers manufactured and delivered by REMKO JSC. The main fuel for the station is casing-head gas. Generated thermal power will be used for technological needs of the field. The rest two power plants commissioning is planned in the end of 2010.

Three Solar Turbines Inc. gas turbine power plants were put into operation on Tedinskoye oil field. Electric output of Centaur GS40 is 3.5 MW, thermal output – 6 MW. Earlier 5 gas turbine power plants were commissioned on the station. The plants operate on casing-head gas with hydrogen sulphide content of 1.22 g/m3. Fuel gas treatment unit was delivered by Technofrigo (Italy) and designed around Grasso screw compressors. Generated thermal power is used for technological process of oil dehydration.
Delivery of the equipment, installation works and commissioning were carried out by Energoteh. General designer of the project is NIPIKBS-KOM Ltd.
