Suzlon bags second 1-GW deal through new Indian power entrant.

India’s Suzlon Group one of the world’s largest wind turbine makers, signed a large supply deal with a wind-focused independent power producer planning to expand in India.

A deal valued at $1.28 billion, the transaction calls for 500 megawatts’ worth of capacity to be commissioned progressively by March 2012 and another 500 MW to be commissioned within the following yeadia. But much of the details are still under wraps as of press time.

The projects will use various Suzlon turbine models including the S88 and the new S9X series 2.1-MW turbines. Suzlon's new S9X series is designed with larger rotor diameters and increased hub heights, among other features.
