GE, Prowind enter 300MW grid deal for Romanian wind farms

A joint venture between General Electric and German renewable energy developer Prowind has reached a 300MW grid connection deal that will allow construction of four wind farms in northeastern Romania.

The agreement with Romania’s grid operator Transelectrica will enable a connection between its new substation being built near the small town of Banca and the proposed wind farms. GE and Prowind did not provide a cost estimate for the wind farms.

GE will supply 120 of its 2.5MW 100 class turbines for the projects. The company says a final schedule for shipment, installation and commercial operation of the turbines has not been finalized, although deliveries could begin in the second half of 2012.
