The Spanish contractor, Acciona Instalaciones, has received an order from Commission Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico, for a diesel power plant with an MAN B&W 12K80MC-S prime mover. This order will be a 42.3-MW extension to the two existing 43-MW plants at La Paz, Baja California Sur.
The new plant will work in combined cycle with a Bottoming Cycle Steam Turbine (BCST) and produce 42.3 MW (net) at an efficiency rate of 44.34% at site ambient conditions at station busbar.
The engine, and its related equipment, will be supplied by MAN Diesel & Turbo’s licensee Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., Korea together with Acciona Instalaciones. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. has already supplied a similar 43-MW plant at La Paz, Baja California Sur.
The MAN B&W 12K80MC-S plant is going to run on local, cost-effective fuel, with a viscosity of around 1100 cSt at 50°C and 4.3% sulphur content – the first two engines already operate successfully on the same fuel. The new installation complements the existing facility with one MAN B&W 10K90MC-S engine and one MAN B&W 12K80MC-S engine and fulfils all local environmental regulations.

Siemens Energy has received an order from the Netherlands for turnkey construction of a combined cycle power plant. Purchaser of the 435-megawatt (MW) plant Diemen 34 in the vicinity of Amsterdam is the Dutch utility Nuon, a subsidiary of Vattenfall A.B. Siemens will also handle plant maintenance. With an efficiency level as high as approximately 59 percent, maximized operating flexibility and low nitrogen oxide emissions the gas-fired plant will supply more than 750,000 Dutch households with ecofriendly power. The Diemen 34 power plant will also be capable of supplying as many as 25,000 households in the immediate vicinity with district heat by means of steam extraction. That is equivalent to a thermal capacity of approximately 260 MW.
After the power plant projects Sloe Centrale, and MaasStroom, Enecogen and Hemweg 9, this is the fifth order secured by Siemens in the Netherlands since 2007 for a turnkey combined cycle power plant.
In addition to turnkey construction Siemens will also supply the main components – an SCC5-4000F gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine, an SGen5-2000H generator, the entire electrical equipment and an SPPA-T3000 I&C system. Siemens will also be responsible for maintenance of the gas turbine, steam turbine and generator.

Alstom has signed a contract worth €100 million with the Brazilian renewable power generating company, Desenvix, subsidiary of the Engevix engineering group, to build a 90 MW wind farm complex in Bahia, Brazil.
With the working name of “Brotas”, the complex will consist of three wind farms - Macaubas, Novo Horizonte and Seabra - and represents Alstom’s first contract in the Brazilian wind market. This contract has been booked in 1st quarter FY 2010/11. The Brotas complex highlights the government’s commitment to develop the domestic wind power market and strengthens Alstom’s position in the renewable energy sector. Under the terms and conditions of this contract, Alstom will provide 57 ECO 86 wind turbines of 1.67 MW each, for which the main components will be manufactured in Spain and Brazil and assembled on the three wind farms with commissioning planned for July 2011. This contract follows a memorandum of intent signed in December 2009 by Alstom and the Government of the State of Bahia to install a first wind turbine assembly factory in the country, located in Camaçari, to be fully operational by mid 2011.

GE will supply fuel-flexible gas turbine technology for the Kenitra Power Plant, which will help the Office National de l’Electricité (ONE) of Morocco meet an increasing demand for electricity to support the country’s strong economic and industrial growth.
GE and its consortium partner, Cegelec SAS of France, have received a contract totaling more than €200 million for the project, which will feature three GE Frame 9E gas turbines that offer the flexibility to burn heavy fuel oil, with distillate as a backup.
The new, 300-megawatt power plant will be located in the harbor of Kenitra, which is 40 kilometers north of Rabat, the capital city of Morocco. The project is part of the Moroccan government’s plan to develop and modernize the nation’s harbors, to help support economic growth. The plan calls for commercial traffic in Morocco’s harbors to increase more than threefold between 2010 and 2030.

MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently been called on to participate in the project, with the delivery of three 18V28/32S engines to the Egyptian Marketing Consultants Group. The four-stroke diesel engines will power three electricity plants in Southern Egypt, near the town of Toshka, and are due for delivery in August, September and October 2010. Each gen-set will have an output of 23 MW. The 18V28/32S engine is a turbocharged, single acting engIne with a trunk-piston configuration. It has a cylinder bore of 280 mm and a stroke of 320 mm with à crankshaft speed of 720/750 r/min. V28/32S of MAN Diesel & Turbo is designed for reliability and ability to run on heavy fuel oil. The company reported extended intervals between overhauls with a lifetime of more than 20 years when properly maintained. More than 5000 of the engines are currently in service.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved one more milestone in the Middle-East region with the commissioning of yet another Gas Turbine Generating unit in Oman.
The 26 MW gas turbine generator was successfully put on stream at the Oman Refinery and Petrochemical plant in Muscat. Significantly, this is the second such unit to be commissioned by BHEL at the refinery. Another unit of similar rating was commissioned at the same project in May, 2010. The first of their kind in Oman, these units will provide captive power generation for the oil refinery.
The gas turbine generator units were engineered, manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Hyderabad Plant while the state-of-the-art control system has been supplied by the company’s Bangalore works.

Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract from Mississippi Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, to supply two SGT6-PAC 5000F gas turbine packages. These gas turbines will be installed in a coal-fired integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) power plant using Southern Company’s proprietary TRIG™ gasification technology. Approximately 65 percent of CO2 emissions from the 582-Megawatt (MWe) Kemper County power plant are expected to be captured – a reduction of three million tons of CO2 per annum. The plant is expected to go into operation in mid 2014.
The Kemper County project, located in Liberty, Mississippi, is one of a very important group of IGCC power projects currently under development or construction in the U.S., which are expected to demonstrate that IGCC is an environmentally compatible coal or petcoke-based power generation option in a carbon constrained world.
Siemens’ scope of supply comprises two gas turbine packages, each consisting of a model SGT6-5000F gas turbine with a rated capacity of 232 MW, an air-cooled generator and Siemens’ innovative SPPA-T3000 power plant control system.
